SCORA (Standing Committee on Reproductive Health including AIDS) is one of the six committees within the Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA). SCORA mainly focuses on topics related to HIV/AIDS, STI prevention and sexuality in a broad view. Through SCORA, medical students across to increase awareness and health concerning reproductive health and related issues. We are all affected by reproductive health: women, men, children, adolescents, mothers and infants, fathers and families.

SCORA aims to raise awareness on a variety of reproductive health issues amongst the public, to spread knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) and to decrease stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS.

 

Working the activities, SCORA has believed that one of the important methods of fighting AIDS is through prevention; and the only way of prevention is through education. Therefore, the main focus of this committee is on activities that emphasize already existing solutions and create new educational programs for medical students, as well as for the general population, students, and teenagers as a risk group. Such as seminary, mini lecture, talkshow, training, media promotion, etc. Other activities have been directed towards promotion of healthy sexual and reproductive behavior, prevention of HIV and STIs, prevention of abortion and appropriate use of contraceptives, reproductive rights, women's rights (gender equality), the fight against domestic violence, Female Genital Mutilation, and maternal health.

The National Committee of SCORA consist of NORA (National Officer on Reproductive Health Inc AIDS), General Coordinator, External Coordinator, Sectreas (Secretary and Treasurer), Project Coordinator, and HROD (Human Resources and Organization Development), including 14 LORAs (Local Officer on Reproductive Health Inc AIDS ) that coming from all of locals SCORA in Indonesia. This structure aims to make easier the coordination and joint cooperation during the activities between local and national. SCORA also co-operates with several United Nations agencies, other health organizations, NGO, government, etc.

This year SCORA has currently a number of projects. Local projects and national projects that officially recognizing collaborating between two or more local member of SCORA. The projects are World AIDS Day Commemoration on December 1st, SCORA’s bulletin, Womans’ Reproductive Chronic Disease Project, Candlelight Memorial Night, National Peer-Education Workshop, SCORA Exchange, and many more. The projects are a little different in each locals, but mostly have the same basis: interactive methods to get people involved and focus on talking and communication without giving long lectures and the whole session should be as much fun and interactive as possible. Wishes the projects could giving a positive contribution to all of people in Indonesia and it was of much benefit to SCORA – CIMSA’s member.
